As an extension to discussions we've had in school during the month of October, SAFETY MONTH, please discuss the following information at home.
Tell your child that it is okay for them to yell NO loudly to strangers encouraging them to talk to them, come with them or take something from them. Adults should never ask children for directions, so that should be red flag for them to run away and tell you. Yelling loudly will draw attention and that is encouraged. Remind them that they are never to keep a secret from you, regardless of what they may be told. We don't want our children to be too submissive and think that they have to listen to all adults because unfortuneately not all adults have their best interest in mind. We want our children to be aware of their surroundings, watchful of strangers and safe from harm.
On the same note, Be SURE your child knows their full name, address and phone number, including their area code.

STUDENT READING PROGRESS 08-09
Did you know our 1st grade students recorded the highest average reading level compared to all CUSD elementary schools at the start of last year?
The spring reading level average for all our 1st grade students was 2nd highest in the district (only .04 away from CHES).
This progress is the result of the exceptional work of our teachers providing a solid foundation in reading and a testimony to our students and parents for committing to reading everyday! Great job students, staff, and parents!
please use sunscreen on sunny days
Parents,
On sunny days, please be sure to apply sunscreen to your child. Let's stay "sun smart" and protect our children from the sun's strong rays.
OUR BATES NUT FARM field trip WAS A GREAT SUCCESS!
Thank you parent drivers!
Our yearly field trip to the pumpkin patch at Bates Nut Farm in Valley Center was terrific! All of Hope's first graders enjoyed exploring the many activities the park has to offer: the informative pumpkin presentation, the tractor hayride, farm animals, corn maze and pumpkin patch. The weather was ideal for this time of year. The previous week it was over 100 degrees there! We scheduled the trip at the start of their pumpkin season so we pretty much had the place to ourselves.
MANY, MANY THANKS to our wonderful parent drivers and chaperones that truly made this educational field trip a reality! You are awesome and much appreciated!
